Early Intervention (EI) Services are provided to children from the age of birth up until their 3rd birthday. The services are provided in the family’s natural environment (the child's home, childcare center, or other community setting familiar to the family) and at no cost to the family. Any parent, caretaker, educator, or medical personnel who have a concern about a child's development can request an evaluation of the child to determine eligibility for EI services. An evaluator will meet with the child and family to conduct the evaluation in a setting familiar to the child. To qualify for Early Intervention, a child must show a 25% delay in one area of development:

  • Physical development including vision and hearing
  • Communication development
  • Social or Emotional development
  • Self-Help or Adaptive development
  • Cognitive development

OR

  • Have a known physical or mental condition likely to result in a developmental delay

Once the child is determined to be eligible for EI services, a Service Coordinator will coordinate specific services based on the needs of the child/family. The types of services a child may receive are:

  • Speech Therapy
  • Nutrition Services
  • Physical Therapy
  • Hearing or Vision Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Parent Education
  • Developmental Special Instruction
